Picking Up Our Rescue Dog

Picking Up Our Rescue Dog

Keeping a secret from William is especially difficult for me. I love seeing his nose crinkle when he smiles, since it means he is very happy. Therefore, the day before we picked up our rescue dog, I prepared him for a long drive and we would pick up our new addition, and his name would be “Jax”.

It was impossible for William to remain still, because he was so excited. He nearly knocked over a few of my dishes on the dish rack while bouncing. I couldn’t help laughing, since he weighs nearly 180 pounds. Despite this, I would never prevent him from being happy.

Our Conversation During The Drive

While we were driving, William proposed that his name was Saliva. I wrinkled my nose at him, since I knew the stares I would get from the neighbours if I identified him as Saliva. I believe I insulted his idea when I looked at him, as he was thinking intently. Then he stated, “Jax Saliva Moats,” and I burst into tears. He wanted to include him in the family and share our last name with him. How beautiful and appropriate it is.

Seeing Unconditional Love

After getting lost twice, we arrived at our destination. They brought out Jax. He had a beautiful black coat shivering out of fear, if he could talk he would tell us the hell he has been through. We watched William gently kiss Jax’s head repeatively. That was my signal that everything would be all right. I thanked everyone as we got in the car, and then we drove away. No sooner had we left the driveway, William let out a loud laugh that I’d never heard before. It was amazing.

Welcome to your forever home Jax. You will be loved for sure. We get it, you will be a peace.♥
